We started the day with a magnificent B&B breakfast, the Bill Barker Motherlode omelet Yum. And more good conversation with Canadian and German guests. We enjoyed a tour with costumed characters who filled us in on what was happening in 1862 when Barker hit his payload, including the contribution of the Chinese to town life. And we found out there had been a town named Van Winkle in the vicinity. At about 2:00 we were back on the road, heading toward Vancouver. Saw a beaver lodge but no beaver. We couldn’t figure out why we felt so hot until we saw a sign saying 95 F. Our first use of the AC ensued. Great invention. We stopped short of our goal for the day in Merritt, BC when the lid blew off the tub stored on the roof, the wind kicked up, and it was getting dark and stormy.
